Phantom of the Fingertips

Paul Diamond’s Phantom at the Fingertips

This is one of the simplest and easiest of hold-outs that you can buy. It is very simple in operation and has virtually no moving parts at all. Back in the 1970s when it was first released Paul Diamond described it as follows:

The greatest apparatus of the century. It is the newest concept in magic, and its versatility is unlimited. The effect will floor any magician or scare the living day lights out of any layman.

I used to purchase this item from Paul Diamond many many years ago and whenever we took it to a convention to demonstrate tricks that could be performed with it we sold every single unit that we had with us. When Paul Diamond retired I made an offer for the rights to The Phantom and now own the world rights to this amazing utility item. I have had a number of superb brass end fittings made for The Phantom and these include a fitting ending in a magnet, a fitting that holds a piece of magician’s wax, a clip for cards or coins or paper billets and also a spiked brass unit that has many uses as well.

I have only ever used it for the most immaculate cut and restored rope effect but it has many, many uses and can produce and vanish countless objects from playing cards, to balls and silks.

The full apparatus comes complete with comprehensive and detailed instructions of over 7,000 words! Many effects are described in detail. This is the basic effect for this device.

Magician shows both hands completely empty, reaches into the air and pretends to find something that seems to be invisible. He places it into his hand. This something that seems to be invisible is displayed on his open palm. The hand is closed and revolved so that the palm is facing the floor. A slight crumpling motion is made and then suddenly stopped. The hand is revolved again so the palm is now facing upwards but still closed. Very slowly, the hand is opened one finger at a time. Resting on the palm is a ball, which has magically materialized. The effect is done in full view and with just one hand.

The complete apparatus plus detailed book of instructions is priced at £75 and is highly recommended by me. Martin Breese
